Design of a contemporary glass-floored rear balcony and landscaped garden

A minimal steel framed structure was employed to maintain the rigid structure required to insert a glass floor.

The concept evolved from a desire to maximise light to the major downstairs living area which faced south. A contemporary, modern feel was developed for the balcony in keeping with the glass-floored concept.

The colour palette selected was neutral to further acknowledge the heritage area in which the building was located and have the balcony aesthetic secondary to issues of natural light and simplicity.

Outcome : Natural light was maximised to lower floor living areas and upper floor master-bedroom. The simple, minimalist balcony design also allowed for full-height glazed bedroom doors to open up towards the landscaped garden. The over-arching contemporary feel of the additions to the terrace generally, was able to be maintained in this small but critical addition, which was a key requirement of the client brief.
