Proposal to add a Master Bedroom & Ensuite in an upper level extension to a fabulous Federation Era house in Dulwich Hill.

The existing roof is a classic form of the period and the insertion of the new spaces seeks to respect the existing form. Punching out appropriately scaled dormers creates additional headroom, provides views out and allows controlled Northern sun into the rooms.

A new staircase is carefully located to achieve best outcome for upper and lower floors with stairwell windows added to permit natural light into the lower floor. This stair is entered via a sliding glass door at the lower level entry to provide privacy for the Master Bedroom. The stairwell also accommodates wardrobe space punched through from an adjacent bedroom as well as allowing a Home Office facility. The upper level layout responds to existing chimney locations and rrof-forms and positions the bed as the focus of the room.

The ensuite is pushed towards the corner of the plan with a split level step-down to provide appropriate headroom where the existing pyramid-like roof form slopes down to the corner of the plan . The resultant lower floor level of the ensuite is accommodated by a drop in the structural ceiling level of the entry foyer and a small front bedroom.
